Topic: Extruder issues

I just got a solidoodle 4, and I put the test filament in. when I went to do my first print, no plastic came out. The wheel spins, and I can push the plastic out manually, but It won't come out regularly.

Re: Extruder issues

is the drive wheel carving a spot into the filament and loading up with plastic filings when it slips? if it does have plastic stuck around it you need to clean that off the wheel with a small brush.

Pictures would also help but you need a few more posts for picture privileges unless you upload them to imgur.com and leave the .com off your url

Ps. Welcome to the forum smile

Re: Extruder issues

I looked, and nothing. Also, what does that spring with a black thing above it on the extruder thing do?

Re: Extruder issues

I believe that it is part of the tension arm for the new extruder.  It pushes your filament against the motor allowing the filament to be pushed through.  I imagine the problem is somewhere in that area or in the nozzle of the hot end.  At the moment, there are very few people here on the forums who have the new extruder to explain it in more depth.  Could we please see a picture?  I think they can be attached as a file with only a few posts.
