Topic: RH Estimated Print Time

Hi all, I've noticed that the estimated time for an object to print that Repetier Host gives is dramatically different than the actual time it takes to print. Is there a way to sync those two up? It's mostly on longer print times. I was given an estimate of 2.5 hours the other night, and the actual time was closer to 5

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

Pretty sure it assumes constant velocity, which is not the case. Without rewriting RH, no.

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

Under Printer Settings, there is a percentage to increase or decrease estimated print time. By default it is set to 8% adjustment..

No longer an option as RH has gone closed-source . You could edit 0.90 versions, or pester 'repetier' about it on Github... But I believe the solution is tweaking the completion time scaling factor that does already exist under printer-settings.

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

I noticed this a month or so back so I did some adjustments so my longer prints (+5hours) were estimated more accurately.  Then my shorter print times were way off. I've given up on trying to estimate the times. Since these printers are not speed demons anyway,  just hit print and come back after me nap.   Lol

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

Weird, my print times are always spot on.

This is a crowd funding thing that I'm running: http://www.gofundme.com/bvi140 It's for pretty selfish reasons tongue

Even longer (multiple hour) prints? Shorter prints are usually pretty close.

Mine used to be...but since upgrading I am getting wrong times as well.  about 8 minutes longer on what it reports will be a 44 minute runtime.

Sounds bizarre since the program knows how fast its going during all prints and moves; One would think it would be spot on every time.

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

Not in front of my printer right now but isn't there a setting in RH that adds a % to the estiimated time to completion?

I thought it was under, config - Printer settings - Printer tab ???

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

Just looked it up.  I am correct about the location.

It says "ADD TO COMP. PRINTING TIME __ [%] (default is set to 8%)

Might want to check to see what yours is set to.

Add 8% to a 30 minute job = 32.4 Minutes
Add 8% to a 5 hour job (300 minutes) = 5.4 hours (324 Minutes)

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

I guess I'll just reset it to 0% and start from there.  Accuracy does count when you're running repetitive print cycles of 40 minutes each and you want to start the next batch in a timely manner (my SD2 is in my detached garage)!

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

Octoprint is even worse about estimates! tongue

But yeah, a possible solution would be to look at the average size of the object and a % time decrease based on that.  Bigger objects are typically closer to constant velocity than small objects.

Nah, it was more the fact that we can loop around again in a thread in less than a day thats still only a single page of posts wink

All good.. sorry if it sounded whiney, it wasn't the credit factor - its the 'we're back at the beginning and we're still on the first page!' thing wink

Anyway, onward, upward, all that stuff.... smile

Re: RH Estimated Print Time

You are lucky.  I had a 5 hour print that had to be shut down at 11 hours, and it was only 1/2 done.
