Topic: Solidoodle forget its size mid-print

I'm trying to print a thing on request, just a plain circle with 150mm diameter (so fortunate I have that exact size bed!). The printer starts printing the "skirt" (it's called that, right? The bounding box around the actual print) at the front left, circle counterclockwise towards the front right, circles to back right then on its way to back left it just halts in the middle, does a 90degree turn and sprints to the front again (still extruding) then when it came all the way to the front it starts circling counterclockwise again towards the front right again and keep hitting the wall for a while. Apparently it believes that before it took that weird 90degree turn it came to the furthest back left.

Of course I stopped the print at this time, checked my settings and nothing was off (I did a few smaller prints before), tried it again and it did the same procedure so I immediately stopped it at the 90degree turn.

tl;dr Printer goes apeshit

Is the filament spool turning smoothly?

SD3, E3D hotend,linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.

Sounds like one of the axis is binding or something is causing it to get stuck, this will cause the stepper motors to lose steps and not move the printhead all the while the printer thinks it is moving. This is one of the drawbacks of open loop cnc systems as there is nothing verifying that an actual move takes place as commanded by the gcode, the main thing you have to do is insure that all the axis move freely and evenly for the extent of their travel so check for obstructions, lubrication, things that may be catching wires or filament basically anything that could interfere with the moving parts on the printer.

Could maybe be an AC adapter issue...? If the power is glitching out it could do something like that.

I'm no expert, just throwing that idea out there...

The motors work fine, they travel perfect from manual control. Smaller prints (even pretty big prints) print just great over various parts of the bed, it's just this size that borders to not able to fit on the bed. I tried the model in scale .9 and it works, so I'm going to try and find the actual maximum size smile
Would be neat to know why it behaves this way though.

Alright, I figured out I can print it at a scale of .95. So the 6x6x6 (or for the rest of the world, 150mm etcetera) is actually 142.5mm (etcetera).
Anyone successfully printed anything bigger? Curious if my printer is bad or if this is standard.

EDIT: Feel I have to add that I tried all the way down from .985 (scale 1 actually never even fit according to repetier) and all prints until .95 screwed up at half of what they should've done. Then it just worked. Suck on that!
