Topic: Best way to attach E3D thermistor to hotend???

I have an E3D hotend, and I've had some difficulty mounting the thermistor to the heating block.  I initially used Kapton tape, and that stayed in place for a couple of days, but eventually worked itself free.  So I got some high temperature cement, filled the hole in the block with it, and stuck the thermistor in the cement.  I wasn't even able to turn the extruder on before I broke off the wires on the thermistor.

Is there any more robust method of attaching the thermistor?  The crux of the problem, as I see it, is that there is nowhere to attach any sort of strain relief for the thermistor leads.

Alternatively, is there any other package/form factor for this or a compatible thermistor that is more substantial than 30 AWG wire?

I have several E3D's and I have never had a problem with the kapton sticking.  With the heater cartridge removed place the thermistor in the hole and wrap completely around the entire block several times.  Then use a razor to cut the hole for the heater cartridge and insert the cartridge. You really don't need a lot of strain relief.

Kapton's stickiness is very non-resilient -- you pretty much get one chance to make it stick.  If you are very careful to not touch the sticky side with anything other than the place it's going, it should hold fine.  I realize that's easier said than done.

I attach my thermistor using kapton. I also then make a flat plane with kapton around the leads. I further kapton this flat piece to the heater block, so its really extra secure smile.  Thats my 'technique'.

Make flat plane maybe 0.8cm with your thermistor leads and kapton. Insert the loose bit of thermistor into the hole. Cover with kapton. And then wrap kapton long way around to secure everything a second time. Finally secure the thermistor cable along with the rest of the cables if it is not already (you dont want any sort of force from the head moving back and forth helping the cable wiggle.)

solidoodle use a black elasticated material over the top of the thermsitor / nozzle... can you cut that in half and use one half... kapton initially, then the black piece over the top...

I use a fine wire wrapped around the block because I was sick of dealing with kapton tape.

yea   kapton tape is a pain to work with.

SD3, E3D hotend,linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.
