Topic: Y drive belt pulleys not loose when doing true circle alignment?

I'm trying to do a true circle alignment, which I have done before. I am noticing this time around, there is literally no play in the pulleys. They will not slide freely on the rail when the set screw is backed out. I even took the set screw all the way out to make sure there was nothing funny going on.

I can get them to slide with considerable force, but simply racking the carriage on the Y axis does not align them.

At first I thought the rod may be tapered but I checked and its 6mm in the middle and on the ends.

What gives, why are these pulleys so tight? I will never be able to get it aligned with the way that it is.

The rod probably got mashed a bit the last time you tightened the set screw.

So they should loose and free w/ no set screw? I'd agree that maybe the rod did get damaged, but even if I force it over to another spot, well away from where it was, its still very very tight. I even tried removing one side and I couldn't it was so tight.
