Topic: Extrusion Calibration adj. causes no bonding in X and Y, Z is fine

I am a newby 3D printer, with an SD2 Pro. Running Repetier v0.85b SD version.

Printing about 5 hours so far and many of the prints have lumps at new Z layer start or what appears to be random lumps in more complex prints. The lumps appeared to be over extrusion.

During the extrusion calibration, extruding 100mm input 138mm. The Marlin Firmware E: setting for steps per mm was 138.

According to the calibration video, I made the E: setting 100. At that setting a solid cube only connects the X and Y layers at the corners. On the sides, there is no bonding. Z bonding is fine.

So, I've been adjusting the E: number back up towards 138 where it was. Am I doing something wrong or is there another setting that will help bond the X and Y sides together while maintaining the correct 100mm extrusion calibration?

Thank you for your consideration. -- ggunners

there are several settings in the slicer program that will affect the extrusion output. the default SD's come with about 30 percent overextrusion... this needs to be corrected then the other settings come into play. like the flow rate, wall width, etc...

Also the lumps at start of new layer can be lessened by upping the retraction setting in the slicer.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll check out the other calibrations.

I thought I was going the right direction, so I'll keep at it.
