Topic: Repetier ignoring my default temp after first layer, then over heats

Hi everyone,

I'm a new solidoodle 2 pro owner.  I've had this issue since the first time I hooked up my printer and although I have found a work around and gotten several good prints, I'm really looking for a fix.

Everything is connected according to manufacturer's instructions.  I set my printer for 197 C default extruder temp and 100 C heated bed, although my bed never seems to get above 95 like many people have said.  Printing ABS.

The issue is that immediately after finishing the first layer, it sets itself to 215 C extruder temp.  My printer apparently can't handle that because it usually cuts itself off around 210 C and requires a complete shut down/ restart of repetier to get going again, and the print is ruined.  The only work around I have found so far is to sit there and watch the entire first layer and immediately bump the temp back down to 197.  Sometimes, it will say that it is still set for 197 C (goal temp) but work itself all the way up to the point of overheating anyway.  When it does this, sometimes I have to manually stop heating the extruder, let the temp fall back to about 192 then cut it back on and just hope it works.

Obviously, this is a real pain and I want to find what is causing this so I can just start a print and walk away.  Has anyone else had this and what was your solution?  I'm hoping it is just a software setting that I am missing.  Thanks!

Edit: I should add that I am using slicer.  I will try skeinforge later and see if that helps.

Slicer does have settings buried in it for setting temperature.  It has one for first layer and one for every other layer. Sounds like you have every other layer set to 215.

Go to filament settings then temperature.  I set both to 0 so that I have manual control.

Good luck!

Hi mdrVB6, There are temp settings in a few places: one if RH itself - go to 'printer settings/printer(tab)' and slicer has some - go to 'configure/printer settings(tab)/custom gcode' and make sure the M104 command is right then go to 'configure/filament settings(tab)/filament' and make sure that is what you want. Hope this helps smile

Ps. Welcome to the forum smile

Oh one other thing... if your getting overheats with that number it is probably because of temp spikes so you should do a calibration of the extruder temp.

OK, so I think I found the settings in slic3r that was making it go to 215 and I've now set it lower.  Stupid question but how do I save the settings in slic3r?  It says I have unsaved changes when I go to close it.  Do I have to export it?

Thanks!  I won't get back home to my printer for a couple more days but it seems likely this should fix it.  I will try to calibrate the extruder temp then too.

For saving settings just reselect the profile(left side of the window above categories) you are using(in the drop down list) then click save(little square disk looking icon next to the red icon)
