Topic: Steppers not responding?

My Solidoodle 3rd Gen printer is not functioning correctly.  I was adjusting the
voltage of the steppers and when pulled away the lead's of my multimeter I
apparently touched something I shouldnt have and my printer shut off for a half
second, and so did my laptop.  The extruder and bed still heat up fine and
repetier host still connects to the printer.  The only thing that seems wrong is
the steppers dont respond to the manual controls in the repetier host program.
Any help would be much appreciated since I cant afford a new printer computer right now
and wont be able to for a while!

The steppers are really sensitive and you might have shorted them out.  I've done it a couple of times already myself  roll

What board do you have?  the new printerboard or the older Sangunilolou?

Re: Steppers not responding?

the New Rev-E Board.  So I might just need new steppers?  Not necessarily a new mobo?

Not sure,  I thought the steppers were directly connected to the board on the Rev E's.  But I could be wrong.

I have the original Sanguinololu board on my SD3

Re: Steppers not responding?

Well I checked and after it heated up, the X,Y,Z and Extruder stepper, none of them made any movement even though I got no error messages and repetier host said they did.  I also tried another computer, same result.

Re: Steppers not responding?

You can try reflashing the firmware first.  I've seen the firmware becoming corrupted from unintentional shorts.  But again I've never used the Rev E board and do not have one on hand to test with.  If it was a sang or Ramps I might be of more help

Re: Steppers not responding?

I tried flashing the firmware but solidoodle doesnt have a tutorial on how to do it with the Rev-E board.  Lets say, if it was a sang, what would you do to test if its the steppers or the board?

Re: Steppers not responding?

Sam,

have you tried this link...  If it was a Sang I would replace each stepper one by one with a known good one.

EDIT-- Sorry wrong link previously

Re: Steppers not responding?

My hopes have been dashed again!  No such luck.  I guess Ill just have to wait for a reply from solidoodle support and if they cant help ill just have to order some new extruders unless theres some way to test them hmm

UPDATE: So I just found a supposed way to test them.  I took a very small LED and pushed the two pins into the connector for the X-Axis stepper (which I obviously disconnected from the board).  When you move the stepper along the carriage it lights up the LED.  So doesnt this mean my stepper should be okay?
