Topic: Anyone know the length of the X-axis rods on the SD2

I know from Lawsy's printable X and Y carriages on Thingiverse that the Y-axis rods are 280mm long.  But I'd like to know how long the X-axis rods are and the Y-drive rod just in case I need to change those rods when I start my disassembly.

Re: Anyone know the length of the X-axis rods on the SD2

Using a cm tape rule, the X-axis rails are 28 1/2 cm long, (285 mm).
The possible error in measurement is a total of three millimeters.
I suggest cutting 29 cm, to ensure you have the X-axis length you need, and cut it down later, if you need to.
The SD2 can hang the extra length outside the outside frame: Take a look at the area.

But -
you might want to check the far X side X-axis holding [fixture/mounting point].
- The X-axis rods are ~ flush with the outside, on my rig.
So, the exact distance may be different on your machine.

I cannot see how to dis assemble the two mounting points for the X-axis.
Looking at the works, on both ends of the Y-axis,
-> how much can you do without dis assembly?

I'm going to be breaking the current Y-carriage to free the X carriage but that's ok because I have some prints of Lawsy's improved carriages on the way.  I'm going to be installing those which use LM8UU bearings.  I may use the existing rods as from what I can see with them in the printer they look straight and I haven't had any problems yet due to their straightness.  However I have also ordered a meter long 8mm steel rod that I will cut down if I need to replace the rods.

Actually I'm wrong, the rods Lawsy was referring to were the X-axis rods.  He says 280mm while N-p-p has 285mm.  So what I need to know is the Y-axis.

The frame is 11.5"x11.75". The rods are .25-.5" longer than the frame.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

So 305mm on the rods should be safe.
