Topic: Frustrated beyond words

Why can't I print small delicate things.  The plastic always comes off the printbed and I am left with a stringy mess.  I am printing a Dalek and the large parts are fine but the weapons won't print.  I have had this problems with other jobs.  Anything with a small foot print won't print.  Is this common that Solidoodle can't handle this type of print?.

Those things look like they'd need supports to print, otherwise they'll try to print way too much plastic in mid-air. Might also need a brim to hold down the supports.

Re: Frustrated beyond words

If all you are trying to print are tiny items, then there is not enough time for the plastic to solidify enough for the next layer. RH already does its best to slow down small layers by forcing the moves slower if the layer time is going to be anywhere less than 30 seconds (default in cooling tab). But this can only slow down to another setting which is the slowest print speed in the firmware (default is 10mm). If you are going to print small items, print something big at the same time next to it. This will give the small items enough time to solidify. That will stop your stringing at least. And you should use a brim to make sure it sticks long enough to finish.

Silly question: Have you saved the changes to the profile before closing the configure window?  Also, make sure you have the correct profile selected within Repetier Host.

There are no silly questions Coaster, alas I have checked and saved my settings.  What should my overhang threashold be?

Re: Frustrated beyond words

Overhang threshold is broken in some versions of Slic3r below 1.0, however I generally use 60 degrees in KISSlicer.  Print one of these: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:58218 without support to find the max angle which prints nicely, and set that as the support angle.
