Topic: Build platform Far Away from Printhead

3D Printing Noob here,

I just got my 3D printer and am struggling with my first print.  Right now the build platform is 6-8 inches away from the printhead when I start printing.  Could someone please guide me in the right direction?

Thanks

Have you clicked on the 'home axis' button on repetier's screen yet?

Yes, that did it.  Thanks for the help, sorry for the dumb question.

Re: Build platform Far Away from Printhead

Whenever the printer first powers on, or you have had the motors turned off, the printer doesn't really know where it is and might think it is on at an endstop when it is way off.  It's good practice to hit the home buttons before you do anything so it can get oriented.

If you're using Repetier it should automatically home the bed at the start of each print anyway smile
Just make sure the Z axis calibration is set beforehand and you shouldn't have a problem.

This is partially true. Repetier does not do this directly, it is in the start G-code in Slicer. If you dont have that in there, it will not home the printer before the job.

Sounds like the Z axis end stop maybe unplugged. Check the wire leading from the end stop that is attached to the side of the platform.

If everything is connected use the code M119 in the g-code entry of the manual control tab to see the current status.
