Topic: I think I know the problem, but I want to get a second opinion.

So, I got my SD3 and I started printing again after a little hiatus since I lost my Macbook Pro. My new Mac Mini is powering my SD3 and she's holding up well if anyone is interested. Here is the problem. I have included pictures of the carabiner clip that I just printed. You may notice that the fill seems very stringy, and even the outside edges of the clip are very frail. It's not as solid as I was hoping for and I'm not sure what the problem with that was.

I did however do a little research and I just wanted to maybe get some back up on this. Do I need to set the flow rate and do an extruder calibration? I just wanna make sure before I go down the rabbit hole for something that isn't going to fix my problem. Thanks guys and have a great Sunday/Monday morning/afternoon/night!

Yes, it looks like you are under extruding a good bit.

I figured it was that, but under extruding? When I measured the extruder last night, it was pulling 133 mm for a 100 mm request, wouldn't that be over? Or is there something wrong with my settings in Slic3r?

There is the extruder calibration that you're talking about, and there is the flow rate that you set in slic3r (extrusion multiplier).

It sounds like your steps are over, but if the multiplier is off then it could counter act that.

A partial clog is another consideration...did the extruder sit at temperature for any extended period without printing?

Gotcha, I just set the flow calibration after I did the extruder calibration. I'm doing a 1cm cube test print to see how it comes out. I'll let you know what comes up.

What is considered an extended period of time? Most of the time I have the setting where the extruder is set to cut off, but I just turned that off for a couple of tests, so I doubt it was that because I had it to shut off when I did that print.

So this is suppose to be a 1 cm cube. As you can tell by the pictures. It definitely is not. I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong because I adjusted the flow rate after I measured that I was getting 133 mm for every 100 mm I was asking for. Any assistance would be appreciated. imgur.com/a/LiSkX

And if screen shots are needed of my settings, I can provide those as well

10 min at temperature without extruding can burn the filament...maybe even 5.

Have a guitar string that you can use to clear the nozzle?

Is your flow rate in RH 100?

What temperature are you printing, and ABS or PLA?

I don't have a guitar string, but I can get one if you think that will help.

I'm not even sure where that is. I have set my extrusion multiplier to .75. Is that what you're talking about?

I've got mine set to 200 and ABS

The 'flow rate' 3doodler is talking about is on the 'manual' tab in repetier host it is an override in percentage for the programmed flowrate, located just above the buttons to turn on.off the heat bed and extruder.

I'm on a Mac, so I'm not sure if it's different. The only thing that I see in reference to flow is the "Flow Multiply" slide, that is above my Extruder and Heated Bed controls. It is set to 100% though.

.75 might be the cause.

Try setting the multiplier to say .95
