Re: My quest to build a solidoodle 3 "airtight" Case!

I certainly commend you on the plywood case that you are building.  That is quite thorough!  I also built a semi-air tight enclosure that's been working pretty well.  Instead of trying to explain it, just watch this video  http://youtu.be/GCMen4MvYOY.  I also uploaded my STLs to http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:181511

It's a simple design which still allows easy access and visibility.

Printing off the QU-BD bed mount for the arrival tomorrow. Still need to go get some hardware and plexiglass. I think I will get everything else tomorrow.

Yes. Similar!  Will I be ok just adding two 40mm fans to cool my printboard with the ambient air in the box or should I come up with another solution or move it outside the box?

So if my Power supply is 30A where do I find the propper conections for the rated amps. Here they go up to 16A

Re: My quest to build a solidoodle 3 "airtight" Case!

Depends on how hot the case gets. Since you're exhausting through a carbon filter it might not get too hot.

Ordering those upgraded connectors is a serious pain in the ass on digikey! Could be down for a month at the rate I can find things. hahaha!

Re: My quest to build a solidoodle 3 "airtight" Case!

Plexiglass and hinge arrived. Got my QU-BD installed last night and ran a test print. Do I need to adjust anything in the firmware for the QUBD? It seemed to work ok last night.

Re: My quest to build a solidoodle 3 "airtight" Case!

What about adding a Golden Rod inside my case then I can store my nylons inside as well?

This one is cheaper (which might mean it doesn't work as well, of course)

Re: My quest to build a solidoodle 3 "airtight" Case!

looks good
suggestion though - might want to rubber-gasket mount those case-screws for the fans - or use some of the rubber 'stopper' ones case-modders use. Reason I suggest is - they will at various points in life I have no doubt cause vibrations due to oscilliations (as the blades get a little dirty/unbalanced) resulting in the wood panel resonating quite nicely smile Even cardboard against my stock case with my 50mm fan running + my extruder fans causes a notable resonance when its resting right against it... drives you bonkers I tells you after a few hours wink

That or use 'speaker gasket goo' (radioshack) as used by speaker-box-builders to provide a rubbery-gasket on the fan->wood interface.

If it is good enough to make working with lead-free solder and companion flux - then it'll be more than a great filter here.

(The switch from Leaded Solder to Lead-Free RoHS stuff, whilst 'kinder to the environment', in the same vein as Unleaded Gasoline,  is also, just like unleaded gasoline compared to leaded gasoline, far far more carcinogenic than the 'nasty to the environment' stuff.. So we are saving the Tree's - just killing ourselves faster and in new and interesting ways in the process wink )

Just a random thought whilst shopping for some bits on fleabay.

Re: My quest to build a solidoodle 3 "airtight" Case!

Seems pretty air tight. My fans suck the front doow on pretty good with the filter out. With the filter installed it barley sucks. I'll have to come up with a latch. I also might cut some holes in the side and add windows. I have some leftover plexiglass.
