Topic: Print pausing and then shifting forward or backwards, solidoodle 3

I replaced a stepper motor chip on my solidoodle 3. Now every print job I've tried completes about 10-15 layers and then pauses for a second then then shifts either forward or backward and continues printing. I tried an update to the firmware that was available but it doesn't help. It would occasionally do this before I replaced the chip but now it's every print. Any ideas?

Vref is set too high. The motor may be pulling too much current, and the pause may be the chip shutting down temporarily.

Maybe try putting a fan on the chip too.

It seems to be tied to the vref. I'm chasing down adjustments.

I'm having this same issue - but my voltages are dialled in exactly as detailed in the troubleshooting guide:

Proper Voltages
X axis: .443
Y axis: .520
Z axis: .500
Extruder: .192

Any luck fixing this?

I'm going to try over and under-ramping the offending Vreg chip tonight, see if it makes any difference. Maybe strap a fan/tiny heatsink onto the electronics too.

I fixed it by bringing all the voltages down to 0 and then bringing them up untill the stepper motor would move. I then had to adjust the z stepper motor a little more because it wasn't stepping far enough and was messing up prints. So far it's done pretty well.
