Topic: SD 2 loves pla, hates abs

My solidoodle 2 performs like a champ when running PLA, but the minute I try to switch over to PLA, the filament feeds ok for a while, then stops feeding and eats into the filament.  Tried changing tension, cleaning the feed mechanism, but can't get anything to work.

ABS is ran at 200-215 extruding temp and bed is at 85-100, doesn't seem to matter how I set them up.  No enclosure.

Help...

Thanks,

Gwfami

Is the fan on the back of the extruder running?

Yes.

Re: SD 2 loves pla, hates abs

If it runs fine for awhile and then jams it might be because  too much heat is getting too far up into the black barrel making the ABS soft where it should be solid.   It gets stickier when it is partway between solid and melted.   See if you can set up a fan to cool the black section.   I can't look up a link right now  but search for  Fan and  PEEK and see what you come up with.

Did you check the diameter of the ABS versus the PLA and define a separate PLA filament def in the Slic3r config? If the filaments are different diameter, that would certainly affect the extrusion rate it should be using.

Yeah already tried that.  It's not the amount of extrusion, its that there is no extrusion.  But thanks for asking.
