Topic: Kinect and Skanect
So I was ripping apart my "entertainment center" to rewire it and I decided to try the Xbox Kinect as a 3D scanner like The Great Fredini does with his Scan-O-Tron 3000.
I sprung for the Skanect license and hooked up the sensor to an I7 beast of a laptop and now I have hi-res ready to print scans of my head and torso that I made while spinning about in, what is now, a backless office chair.
I know you all will want samples but I am waiting on getting some of the metal flecked bronze filament or a fresh can of metallic Krylon Fusion before I start handing them out for real. All in good time my friends.
Unlike The Great Fredini I found Skanect to be more user friendly than the ReconstructMe tool he prefers. It was perfectly functional, has built in mesh repair, cropping tools, and is cheaper.
So as not to totally disappoint you I have included a picture of the preview of the back of my head.
