Topic: Random X or Y offset during print

Hi,
I am having issues with my one week old Solidoodle 2.  At a random point in most prints the print head will move to the left of sometimes to that back of the printer and keep trying to print as if nothing happened, I have a faulty X limit switch but I can still move it manually if I pause the print.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Random X or Y offset during print

I'm not real sure based on your description, but it sounds like you may be describing skipping steps.  This is where the printer sends the command to the motor to move so many steps but because of resistance one form or another it cant do it quickly enough and ends up offset.

If that sounds like what you have going on then the first thing you need to do is grease up your rods (nothing petroleum based though!) I use white lithium grease.  The second thing you should do is power off the printer and manually move the printer head around looking for binding or difficult movement.

If its binding you may have a belt tension problem.

Re: Random X or Y offset during print

I also had the printer messing up randomly with different causes..

1. The printer motherboard was getting too hot, after pointing a fan on it the printer worked well again.

2. 1 of the y axis rods was not straigt, this caused the printer to move the axis during a print wrong.

3. It also could be the potmeter of the stepper driver is not set at the correct voltage. Check the solidoodle customer support for help and take a look at the troubleshooting on their site. You will need a multimeter to do this.

Re: Random X or Y offset during print

Thanks for the help, I am going to wait to get my replacement end stop before contacting Solidoodle support again but I will try putting a fan but the motherboard.
Thanks
