Topic: LCD and SD card for S3?

Does the PANELOLU kit work for the s3?

I don't really see anybody ever talking about using an sd card or lcd for there s3.

I haven't received mine but I wanted to purchase one ahead of time if it was possible.

Any responses would be greatly appreciated smile

Re: LCD and SD card for S3?

Search the forum, there is a detailed how to thread.  It's a little out of date however because the Panelolu has been updated to use fewer pins.  It also depends on whether you have the older Sanguinololu or the new Printrboard.  Yours will probably be the Printrboad, so try Googling that along with Panelolu.

I've tried a similar search and I was able to find an article however it wasn't specifically for the s3 so I just wanted to clarify.

Has anyone tried the Panelolu 2 is that the updated version you were talking about?

Re: LCD and SD card for S3?

I have been looking for the exact same thing myself, without much luck. I am under the assumption that the Sanguinololu needs to have the atmega chip or it cannot be done. If anyone has done it with a stock SD3 and can put up a link or directions on how to do it (like a walkthrough), it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: LCD and SD card for S3?

There is no walkthrough or guide for the SD3 with the new printrboard motherboard. I am currently working on this myself. I have LCD and SD support working on a generic printrboard and I am working on compiling and wiring it to the SD3. When I have good success, I will post up a how-to.

Re: LCD and SD card for S3?

Yes well that still leaves me out in the cold, as I received my printer in March, which means I have the Sanguinololu control board, which means a complete revamp of the electronics. Unfortunately I don't feel THAT comfortable with messing around with that much of the electronics yet. So now I have no clue if it can even be done or not.

Re: LCD and SD card for S3?

Why not buy a $35 raspberry pi, load Octopi, and then drag and drop your files from the LAN?

My SD3 arrives tomorrow and I spent the couple of weeks while waiting for it to buy and set up my pi. It wasn't that bad and I know nothing about Linux! I found a write up on the printrbot forum. I just followed it carefully. No big deal. My pi is headless and only has the wifi and power cord plugged into it.

Hardware: SD3, Octoprint, Raspberry Pi
Software: Cura and ViaCad

Re: LCD and SD card for S3?

I agree with TahoeTim, this Panelolu looks sooo outdated. The RasPi or Android tablet seem a more modern solution to me.
Plus I would save Sanguinololu extra pins for something g-code controlled, like the g-code fan, or additional limit switches...

Re: LCD and SD card for S3?

Can RasPi control it by itself or do you need the tablet also? Also which version of Pi, I think there's 2 of them or does it really matter? Also what comes with the Pi? The only thing I think I would really needed would be a power cord. Where did you find a Pi for 35?

Nevermind just won the bid on Raspberry Pi 2.0 Model B 512MB Version Element 14 Linux System Board, went and bought the raspi book for dummies at the barnes and nobles...lol

Now I'm off to print a pi case and hold my breath until it delivers.....hehehehe

Re: LCD and SD card for S3?

Well the Raspi came in, Have Octopi loaded onto it, I cannot for the life of me get it to run with wireless. It connects to OctoPi great when it's wired. I can even see how it's supposed to run, just haven't figured out how to get files into it yet, or get the wireless working. Any ideas on this one?
