Re: Has anyone designed an indicator mount for a stock SD3?

I think i have the final design for the slides and the mounts.  The last modification was for the magnet holes, didn't have them deep enough so the magnets didn't make it close enough to the bolt heads.  If you have DL' the mount, you may want to DL it again to get the latest revision

Thanks, just grabbed them and I'm about to start the printer up.

When a good print goes bad....

FOUR TIMES!!!

Tried with and without support, but the curling has caused it to be knocked off a few times now. So now I'm trying to print it flat.

wow.  which part is not printing?  the mount?  I printed it standing up as designed and used support.  I didn't have any issues..  The only reason i used support was because of the clips.  What part is curling?

OK, I hae it made, but I wouldnt mid having a go at reworking your original files a bit. Editing .STLs is a pain.

The slide mechanism works perfectly, the fit is beautiful. However teh inflexibility of ABS means it snapped one of the little lugs off.

The clip for the gauge though is way too small, and being inflexible it just snaps. I have posted a pic of my prints on Thingiverse.

I justr reprinted the slide vertically so I would have maximum strength at the clip, but it wont budge enough to put my gauge in.

I am about to run some X/Y calibration tests to see if my SD is making the holes a bit small. But a cube prints so close to perfectly I dont think that is the problem.

I'll post up the .stp file on thingiverse today.  I was gone all day yesterday so i didn't get any print work done..
I printed my slide vertical also to maximize the stem clip strength.  I have the clip designed .4mm smaller than my indicator stem checked and it's a snug fit but that's what i was shooting for.
I haven't reprinted my mount with the beefed up slide clips so maybe i made them too beefy.  I did make sure my prints were oriented so that my layers didn't create fracture seams.. does that make sense?
I'll look at your pics and get those files uploaded later.  I'm on my personal laptop now and all the files are on my work laptop..

Gomisan,
I added the .stp file to thingiverse.
Post up any enhancements you make so i can get them in the original design.

good luck and keep us posted

Thanks, I will probably have another go at this tonight and of course I'll give back to the community any enhancements I can make.

I like the idea of your mount being one that can be used to mount a fan as well, just slide out the gauge, and slide in a fan unit.

I never thought of it as being universal to mount other things.  Not sure how strong the magnets would be. I just finished printing another mount with the beefed up slide clips and deeper magnet holes. I'll let ya know how it turns out when I get it cleaned up and tested. As a side note,  I did a ton of printing and leveled my bed with a piece of paper.  When I finally got around to putting the indicator on it,  I didn't have to make any adjustments. It was that close. Of course the bed is warped by .020".
It's bed time on my side of the earth.

Deeper magnet holes? On the prints I did the magnet holes go all the way through.

It's hard to see but the magnet holes change diameter where the holes go over the bolt heads. There's a little shoulder that stops the magnets from going all the way thru. I changed the depth of that shoulder.
