Topic: October 19th Solidoodle Shipping Update

From the Solidoodle facebook page...

The shipping picture at Solidoodle is getting better every day. We've been a little behind but we're catching up quickly. We now have a staff of over 50 people dedicated to bringing new printers to life - to date we've shipped over 900 printers. Let's take a look at the current shipping picture:

June Orders:
June orders have already begun. There were less than 300 June orders, so we should be able to clear them in a little under three weeks.

July Orders:
July orders were similarly narrow clocking in at just under 300 printers. July orders should be cleared in six weeks. These orders are set to begin November 8th.

August Orders:
August orders Should clear within eight weeks. These orders are set to begin November 22nd.

September Orders:
September orders should be finished shipping within ten weeks. These orders are set to begin December 6th.

October Orders:
October orders are set to be cleared within 12 weeks. These orders are set to begin December 20th.

As we can see, we are poised to make great progress! Stay tuned, as more shipping updates should be coming your way soon.

It's a marked improvement.  I think the only other information that could be clarified (and helpful for those in line) would be to attempt to explain the order number / serial number / invoice number so people could more accurately predict their spot in line when others list their numbers and shipping dates

Order ID: Is based on the number of orders attempted, and will always have lots of null orders in between real ones.

Invoice Number: Provides a rough idea of your place in line, but doesn't actually synch 100% to the number of orders.

We've said before, and we'll say it again. You can't infer good estimates based on these.

YES, this is very useful information, at least I know when to expect my machine... Keep us updates precisions and news comes.

I ordered mid September, so maybe with some luck I'll have it for XMAS !!!!!!!!

Just a thought, somewhere on your website you could list the latest order ID shipped. This would give people a rough estimate of where you are up to. I'm sure this could be automated from your order system.

Re: October 19th Solidoodle Shipping Update

Any further updates on shipping status?  I have mine, and as a result of taking in parts to work to show off, I have 3 of our mechanical engineering team interested in asking for them for Christmas.  (They're quite familiar with rapid prototyping in general - we have SLA mockups made all the time - but until I started talking about it they didn't really realize how close the 'home making' revolution was. wink )

I've given them links to Solidoodle's site, but did have to be honest about the delay between my order and actual receipt, which has tempered their enthusiasm a little bit...they know there's almost no likelihood of receiving them for Xmas at this point.  But a more recent update would probably help you reel them in the rest of the way to still making the purchase.

We may be providing a shipping update this week. Things have slowed a little due to holiday concerns, but we'll keep everyone updated.

Re: October 19th Solidoodle Shipping Update

Brad,
Do you have an estimated shipping start date for orders created in November?  I have tracked your output on a simple graph, and I do see that you are improving your delivery time estimates.

I know that you are a  start-up company trying to make the scene....would you be up for a suggestion?
I am a green belt Lean Six Sigma (and out company's Six Sigma interim "instructor" while I go for my black belt), and, looking in from the outside, your assembly and production format appears to be a nearly perfect match for a Six Sigma (I'd go Lean-SS) system.  You might realize a marked improvement in throughput with a much smaller margin of error per quantity of units.

Thanks for bringing a great product to us "regular" folks.

Sincerely,
Kevin

Re: October 19th Solidoodle Shipping Update

If Solidoole would just be honest with the shipping times on machines and filimament they would make a lot more sales than people reading here about all the delays and how pissed people are getting on waiting. Customer support makes or BREAKS a company plain and simple! The only thing keeping them in the game now is the price, once they lose that it's all over. If another company comes along and matches or beats the price and treats its customer with GREAT service then Solidoole will be in for a hurt.

November Orders should start sometime in January. Sam (our CEO) knows are loves Six Sigma, so I think you might be preaching to the choir. Let us know if you have specific suggestions - we are always open to new ideas.

Re: October 19th Solidoodle Shipping Update

LOL! Thanks everybody for the input.  This is a great forum.  I'm glad to be a part!  I'll hopefully look for my printer in the January "realm".  As for Sigma, as your CEO knows it's a process that has to remain tightly focused in order to be effective.  The best by-product of our "Sigma-tism" (I couldn't resist, lol) is that each team member is far more aware of possible issues and variations and are actively trying to reduce them.  To what level we can transcend, well that remains to be seen.  Thanks again!!!

PS: Thanks for the hit back, support.  I know y'all are very busy!  Have a great Holiday Season!

Re: October 19th Solidoodle Shipping Update

No matter where you find them, sigma people all seem to be the exact same person to me.  I run the other direction, haha.  There's a method to my madness but I don't want it documented.

Re: October 19th Solidoodle Shipping Update

cmetzel,
I'm about the most unorthodox "sigmatic" you'll ever come across.  I certainly see the potential, but I'm a realist as well. Glad you have a method to your madness...I'm still working on the method...got the madness down to an art tho...:)

Re: October 19th Solidoodle Shipping Update

DePartedPrinter,
LOL! Man, you are SO right.  What this start-up company needs is a rain maker that really knows how to take the company to the next level.  I'm smart enough to know that I'm not the guy, but he or she is out there.  They are trying valiantly, and I give them credit for trying to keep up, but there's gonna come a point to which, six sigma or not, they are going to have to up their professionalism.  Sam should stay on as CEO...he's smart, no doubt, but even smart people should look at input options.  I'm proud of what they've done so far though, on their own...kudos for the hard work!!!  And I REALLY hope they find the right setup and make it big time.  Keep at it, guys (and girls).  A lot of people are rooting for you...:)

December 18th Shipping Update

Greetings!

Happy holidays from Solidoodle. We're working around the clock to assemble your printer as soon as possible, while still maintaining our rigid quality control standards. We're happy to report that to date we've shipped over 1800 printers.

Production is picking up at a rapid pace. We've got a great team of over 60 people and we're now able to ship about 150-200 printers per week.

We have been very pleased with the positive reaction to the launch of the Solidoodle 3. We hope that you are excited about the improvements that we are making to the Solidoodle.

As of the writing of this letter the most recent order shipped is #3827.

August Orders
We should be finishing up August orders this coming week. There are less than 20 August orders left.

September Orders
We expect to begin shipping September orders on December 17th and finish them on December 31st, for a total of 250 printers. This concerns order IDs 4075 through 4782.

October Orders
October orders should begin shipping on New Years day and finish shipping by January 18th. This concerns order IDs 4782 through 5470, and accounts for about 200 printers.

November Orders
November orders should begin on January 19th. We anticipate November orders to take 2 weeks to clear, finishing in full by February 4th. This of course excludes Solidoodle 3 orders, which should begin shipping earlier in the month. November orders involve order IDs 5473 through 6196

We hope you're excited! We appreciate your continued patience, given our unprecedented demand. We have thousands of happy customers already printing with their Solidoodle's all around the world. We assure you, it's well worth the wait. We can't wait to see what you're going to create.

When i first ordered the S2 (in August 2012, upgraded to S3 in Nov), my gf asked me what I was going to do with a 3D printer. I said i could make stuff, like phone cases etc.

Not long after, she got a new iPhone 5 and she asked if i could print an iPhone case for her when my printer arrived. I said sure. Sometime after that, she joked that when my printer finally arrives, i could print her a case for her iPhone 6...

Now, after 5+ months of waiting, she is considerate enough not to joke about it anymore.

Long story short, more details on shpping updates would be greatly appreciated.
