Topic: loading firmware

I have an SD3 which I got in April. I used up the filament that came with the unit plus maybe 3 meters of white I bought from Amazon. All the while trying to get the print to stick. No complete prints. SD support experience has been bad and the printer is still not working the problem has been that the extruder motor just quit! New motor, new driver board and supposedly a new motherboard. 
So I got a generic Sanguinololu board, which I can't get to load firmware. I get message  ATmega1284p not found. I am not a profession programer, but have written programs since Fortran 2.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Are you sure it has a 1284 and not a 644?

Need more details... like what software and drivers you have installed/tried to install for audrino support also where you got the new stuff.

Yes it reads 1284p on the micro.

All the printer changes were from / by SD Support. I should mention 30 days were lost when I miss spelled the email add and PayPal sent me notice that the funds for a new  motor had not been picked up.

The sanguinololu board is from Amazon and currently has only one of the four motor drivers.

I believe you need to make sure that you have arduino version 22 on your computer, and then after downloading the appropriate libraries for sanguino make sure you have it set to use 16 MHz.  The generic sanguino is pretty much identical to the old solidoodle motherboard before they upgraded to the new config. So that should cause no problems.

Also don't give up on solidoodle support. I've had bad experiences as well, but be patient, keep on contacting them sincerely, and let them know that nothing but a functioning printer is acceptable. They'll take care of you if you don't give up. I know how frustrating it can be having been there myself, but they pulled through in the end. Just stick to your guns.

Goof, can't attach file to posts. the upload to arduino error seems to be:

avrdude: AVR Part "atmega1284p" not found.
Valid parts are:

A long listing of valid parts.
The board is "Sanguino W/ ATmega1284p 16mhz"

Sure you have the right port?  Try the different ports that are listed.
