Topic: Gluing Belts

So I need to replace my belt that comes directly off the Y motor, I was accidentally sent a long belt that i need to cut to size and glue together, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to glue this together to get a nice circular belt?

Re: Gluing Belts

For the Y-motor I don't see how you can do this. There are very special ways to glue it but they will not be as strong as the original belts.

For the Y-motor you need a continuous loop.

Perhaps you can think of some way to deal with the long belt? Is it only a little too long? Perhaps you can drill holes to mount the Y-motor even lower. If it is *much* longer.  however, you will be somewhat increasing your backlash.

You could add a tension arm with a bearing for the belt to roll over to the system. Then no cuts needed. But I think ordering a new belt seems much easier.

Re: Gluing Belts

the problem is it isnt circular to begin with, what im considering doing is mounting the y motor alot lower to use the long belt and joint it in some way, then just have it so the joint never needs to go over the pulleys, this will only be temporary until i can get the proper belts then ill just raise the motor back to normal, the only reason I am even trying this is because I currently am using it for a work project so i cant really have another 2 week delay for new belts. My theory is that in a small print the belt wont need to move enough to have the joint hit the pulleys. Any thoughts on this idea?
