Topic: Black Filament temps VS Red filament

HI all,
I just got in a roll of red Sainsmart filament today and started doing some calibration with it.  I have only run black so far and i'm getting decent prints.  The red filament however did not like the settings i had for the black.  Take a look at the pics and see if you think i'm running the red too hot.


I have the black head temps set at 195(1st) then 190
The red prints in the pics i ran at 190(1st) then 185, and then 185(1st) then 180.  And it still looks like i'm running to hot.  The big difference is in the corners.  How much of a difference in temps will the different color filaments have?  Am I going the wrong direction, should i be getting hotter?
Let me know, so far everyone on here has helped me solve every problem I've had so far.

So this is ABS?  you're right, it looks a little too... "gooey" (?) as far as the red print goes.  Each batch of resin can vary in temp, so keep dropping the temp until you get a print that looks about right.  Temp-wise it almost seems like PLA...

You can get in the ballpark by just hitting the extrude button as you drop the temp a few C at a time.  When you see the plastic start coming out with teeth marks still in it from the gear, you are getting close to the minimum temp for that filament.  Then try printing a little hotter than that point.

cool.  that's what i was looking for.  Is the optimum head temp based on this method?  Or is this just a method to use for a good jump off point and then tweak based on what I think i like after that?

I would consider it a jumping off point.  You might need a higher temp for better layer adhesion or faster printing.  It's just easier to find a definite "too cold" point than "too hot".
