Topic: gaps between layers

Hi everybody,
I just got my new solidoodle 2 today
After some tweaks (adjusting Z stopper and heating bed) I tried printing my pirst print.
Now when it's done i see that it has many gaps between the layers and also that the outside shell is loose
someone knows how i can fix it?
oh and I use Kisslicer as my slicer.

thanks!

Re: gaps between layers

have you done all your extruder calibrations yet?  What temperature are you printing at?

Re: gaps between layers

Could it be that this loose layering is still a Z-tab issue? Looks like your extruder tip is higher than it things it is, and isn't applying any pressure on the filament at extrusion.  That, coupled with warpage from loose layers cooling at random rates would cause that type of result.  Although, I'm somewhat new to this too (6 months in), so you might want to hear out everyone else.

Z axis problems usually self correct in 3 or 4 layers as long as the part was able to adhere to the bed.

That makes sense with expansion that it would catch up.  I'm still learning.  This forum is a huge help.  Thanks!

Re: gaps between layers

You may want to check how many shells/perimeters are being used to build the form.  If you're using 2-3 for a curved shape, you may not just be getting enough to fill the exterior when the angle changes.  I used 5 perimeters as this seems to be enough for basic shapes like these.  I bump it up when I need to have a stronger shell.

Re: gaps between layers

Do you have Z lift enabled, where it moves the bed up and down during travel moves?  If the Z axis is missing steps, then that would cause the height to vary within a layer.  Extra backlash in Z might have the same effect as well.  If you have Z lift on, try turning it off.

Re: gaps between layers

Thanks for the fast answers!
About your questions:
1. Im pretty sure the z axis stop is fixed in the right position because changing it even in a small amount blocks the fillament from extruding in the first layer.
2. The extruder doesnt move in the z axis when printing every layer.
3. The heatbed temp is set to 100 degrees and the extruder to 200.
4. I'll check the option with the perimeters maybe it will help..
