Topic: Replacement For Mainboard

While attempting to replace components for an upgraded heatbed I ended up tearing off part of the copper trace on the board so I no longer have anything to solder the new components too.  I was also having the hardest time trying to desolder the components (I couldn't figure out how to apply heat to melt the present solder and be able to pull the part (especially when the item has two or three leads).  At this point should I try getting another Sanguinololu board or is there something better out there?  If I go with another Sanguinololu can I just pull the old processor and driver chips and just install them?  If there is something better what would it better and where do I get it from?  Also what's the easiest way to solder the upgraded jumper wires for the PCB heated bed?

Re: Replacement For Mainboard

I highly recommend an Azteeg.  The X1 is equivalent to a Sanguinololu without its flaws, and the X3 supports an extra extruder, has several pins for gcode controlled fans and a built in SD reader.

Can I use the same stepper drivers?

Is this the answer to my post from last night? http://www.soliforum.com/topic/3457/no-heat-bad-board/
Like Snooks569 I have many questions but very little time these days. Is there a definitive guide somewhere on how to do this? It looks like there is some good documentation on the site. Is that enough?

Re: Replacement For Mainboard

You can use the same steppers.   I wrote a guide a while back, if you search Azteeg it should show up.  You should consider upgrading the driver for the extruder to one of the new ones that does 1/32 microstepping. It will improve the surface quality of your prints.

Re: Replacement For Mainboard

I think I will end up getting the X3, but being kind of a novice I am not sure which options to go with.  Will I need to buy any additional end stops?  What is the purpose of the thermo couple inputs on the 1.1 shield and will I need them?  I have a Prusa MK 2a heatbed, is the Helios better?

Pretty much everything you need to know. http://www.soliforum.com/topic/377/upgr … azteeg-x3/
Once again, damn fine work, Ian.

Is the Helios a better bed than the Prusa MK 2A?

Re: Replacement For Mainboard

Since I have an s2 the helios is too big, so I never really looked into it.  The extra endstop connections are for adding endstops to the other ends of the axes to if you want them.   The thermocouple inputs are experimental, along with the extra motor inputs.   If you get 3 hot ends and the software/firmware to support them,  the X3 has inputs for them.
