Topic: Possible design tip

I am just a rookie but it seems to me that one little problem is getting a printed part off the bed. Some are really stuck tight. You have to be careful you don't bend the bend or arm enough to take it out if alignment and watch that you don't scratch the bed or its coating.

So, depending on what type of part you are making, perhaps it makes sense to design a small "thumbnail cove" shaped like a coin slot, into the part on the first few layers so you can get a little plastic pry tool into it to pop the part off the bed.

On things like printer parts or other utility gadgets, it may be fine although some more artistic creations might not look right with a mystery notch cut into the side.

generally, if you let the bed cool completely, the parts will be much much easier to remove

Re: Possible design tip

I have one of these and I can start it under the edge of the part and just roll my wrist to pop the part off the bed.

This and a chisel exacto knife is what I do, never have a problem.  The only reason I let it cool is so I don't distort the part taking it off, otherwise I can get it off while hot with the exacto without a problem.

Re: Possible design tip

With a glass bed top, I have a flat box cutter with a replaceable razor blade tip.  Can slide under even the thinnest brim and I can slice it off the bed enough to pry it off.

Interesting. I think the razor on glass bed is very nice. I have the aluminum bed and Kapton coating which liits me to a plastic windshield scraper or such. As far as cooling the bed, that's fine unless you are printing a series of parts, one after another.

Thanks for the posts.
