Topic: Filament comes out wet and textured

I recently finished my first reel of filament (I bought it from Solidoodle along with my printer), and purchased some SainSmart filament of the same diameter that came highly recommended on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AA5AIN4/ref … 25410_item). My first print turned out perfect, but then mysteriously all prints since then have been disasters, with the filament coming out "wet" and thick and textured, like a Van Gogh painting (see attached picture). I don't think the filament is bad because 1) it came highly recommended from the reviews on Amazon, and 2) my first print was perfect. Do I need to change the temperature of the extruder, perhaps? Thanks in advance for the help.

Sainsmart filiment is not the best the abs consistency ie quality is very poor likewise don't buy from dealextreame

i bought from a source in Canada revolution printers and its really good might be worth a tray

We highly recommend that you use our filament if you can.

I just looked at the picture, can you measure the filament diameter? look like you are over extruding and the hotend is melting previous layer.

The filament is 1.75mm, just like the filament I originally purchased from Solidoodle. Ravenscrest, what do you mean that the hot end if melting the previous layer? Do you mean that the hot end is sticking down into the printed object, or that it's melting too much of the plastic within the hot end? And yes, it's totally fine if you use the picture in whatever way would be useful to you. Thanks.

You can tell it is overextruding from the tracks the nozzle is making through plastic.  When there is too much plastic, the threads squish together and push the plastic up high enough for the nozzle to run through it.   Have a look at this for setting the right flow rate - http://solidoodletips.wordpress.com/201 … flow-rate/

@pascal, i am asking for the filament's actual size, like 1.753, 1.748, 1.8, or 1.7.  Since your topic is complaining about the new filament you are using, so... the diameter for the new filament might not be exact 1.75 and it might be 1.8 (because the over extruding)
and like IanJohnson explained, your hotend nozzle is touching and melting the previous layer.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I figured out this was a problem with my z-axis being off. It was set a tad too high, which resulted in the nozzle dipping down into the layer it was extruding (and perhaps even deeper) and melting the plastic. Once I lowered the bed slightly, everything was fine. It took me awhile to figure that out, unfortunately, but at least it wasn't something worse. Thanks again for all the help.
