Topic: new Motherboard and SD Card reader

so the new Solidoodles are shipping with a new motherboard which is supposed to allow for and SD card reader and g-code controlled fan. has anyone done this mod yet? I am new to 3D printing but if I can make the machine more portable or print without a computer that would be a welcome addition.

"We just recently changed the motherboard on new Solidoodles going out....

For the tinkerers wanting to do modifications, the new motherboard also has spots for expansion headers, SD card reading, and a g-code-controlled fan...."

Re: new Motherboard and SD Card reader

The new motherboard is more or less a rebadged printrboard.

Anything you can do with a Printrboard, you can achieve with the new SD Motherboard... after you solder the extra headers in wink

Re: new Motherboard and SD Card reader

I also just got my Solidoodle 2 Pro model with the new motherboard. Can anyone share how to use the Micro SD slot of the new  motherboard? I think we only need some software to use the built-in  sd card slot.

Re: new Motherboard and SD Card reader

I've mailed to the solidoodle support about it .
You can't use it yet, the function is not implemented at this time .

Re: new Motherboard and SD Card reader

Ok. Does that mean eventually solidoodle will support it in the future?
I'm using Repetier and there's an icon upload to SD that's why I'm curious about the built-in micro SD slot on the new motherboard.
I don't have extra microSD so I have'nt tried yet

SD card,  you need to enable it via firmware and simply the same instructions as per a printrbot apply.. But the SD card itself is kinda useless since you need a pc to send the geode commands to start the jobs, and then need to stay connected to the printer to home it and control it... Better to get the LCD running so you can truly standalone print

As for if SD will make it work for you.. they might surprise everyone.. but I think you'll find it'll be fixed by the community long before they do.

Re: new Motherboard and SD Card reader

Yes I saw your reply  on the other thread. You're right I forgot that you still need lcd.
I don't know why solidoodle can't provide the most wished for by everyone "SD card support w/ lcd controls" like the MakerBot.
They can atleast make it as an optional upgrade for people who wants to pay for it.
Anyway, I already have a solidoodle and a raspberry pi but I'm still figuring out the best setup.

Re: new Motherboard and SD Card reader

I don't know if they plan to make an upgrade to support SD card. It's an important function beacause you can launch a print without needing a PC or a MAC. I hope they'll do, but as adrian said the community will fix this long before solidoodle.
