Topic: Help: Initial Printer Setup

Hello,

I'm fairly new here and could use quite a bit of help. I've recently purchased a solidoodle 3 and I'm having difficulty in getting it properly set up for a print. Currently I am able to connect to the printer through Repetier (using my Mac), but I can't initiate a print. I can't preheat the printbed or nozzle either. I've been following a few guides as well as all of the setup instructions on the solidoodle website, but I'm still at a bit of a loss at the moment. It would be nice if someone could perhaps step me though some of the basic setup steps, I feel like I might just be missing some simple things here.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Help: Initial Printer Setup

When you are in Repetier Host, open the Config menu then select Printer Settings.

Under the Connection tab what is "Connector:" Set to? If this says virtual printer, change it to say Serial Connection.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

Sometimes RH acts like its connected when it isn't. Are the temps reading ambient?  Will the motors move?   You can connect when there isn't power. Do the fan and lights come on?

Re: Help: Initial Printer Setup

@2n2r5 I don't see a "Connector:" setting, but under "Port:" (one of the options under this is virtual printer) I have it set to usbmodem12341. Perhaps I'm missing something, or perhaps I have this set up correctly?

@IanJohnson It doesn't seem like I can do anything when it's "connected." The motors don't move and it won't heat up or read the temperature. The only lights that I see on are the lights next to the usb panel on the back of the printer. Perhaps I'm not properly connected to the printer?

If the fan on the extrude motor and the LED strip in the front of the frame isn't turning on then you aren't getting any power either.

Re: Help: Initial Printer Setup

I'm pretty sure the printer is getting power, I might just be wrong about which parts of the printer are and are not responding. I'm not able to test my printer at the moment, but I'll be sure to post more accurate descriptions once I have a chance to analyze my setup later.

Re: Help: Initial Printer Setup

Sorry for the late response, I haven't had a chance to mess with my printer lately.

But on the bright side, everything seems to be working now. I'm honestly not sure what I was doing wrong before, but the printer is up and running. Of course I'm sure I'll run into many more questions along the way, so expect to see me back here soon tongue
