Topic: Issues with overhanging material

I'm printing in ABS on the SD3.  I'm trying to print an object that has some material jutting out part way up, at a 90 degree angle from the support.  In Slic3r I've had a little play with the settings, specifically on the "Support material" tab.  I've ticked the box to print overhang material, and have tried the overhang threshold on the default of 45 and then setting to 91.  I got a slightly better result on the 45, but still pretty dire.  Is a raft something to use here, or enforcing the building of supports for the first X layers (since the jut begins at about the 10th layer)?  Is there some other option that could provide a solution?  Maybe adding an object to the printbed of the required height to be printed on?

Thanks in advance
