Hi! I received our Solidoodle a month back and sadly it hasn't yet worked. I have been writing to the support and the suggestion I have got of shipping the piece back seems weird as the export cost would probably be more. I need help with sorting this out - please tell me what needs to be done.
You gave literally zero information on the broken part. How are we supposed to help?
There is no broken part - the thing just doesn't work.
in which way does it not work?
when you plug in power, it responds?
when you plug in the usb, the pc sees it?
the software installed?
the software connects?
the manual controls respond?

I have no idea how you expect help when you offer no details.
disclaimer: we don't work for solidoodle! we just happen to own their product and like to help people.
so... is the software not connecting? or is the power supply not working? is the fan on solidoodle turning on? can you move x y z using software? can you heat your hotend? can you heat your bed? can you extrude abs at 195 C? can you make print your first layer?
My first guess is a clogged nozzle (the "faulty part")
Second guess is the plastic won't stick because he hasn't adjusted the Z tab.
Sorry for the lack of information. The printer doesn't power up at all when I plug it in. Neither does the computer recognize it when I connect it to the USB - I thought the microcontroller board was an Arduino which should get recognized without the adapter's power also; am I right there?
Should I try using a battery or something before I ship out the piece back to the guys at Solidoodle? The fact is that I have purchased this for my college and my college won't pay for shipping it back - the incharge says that they expect a satisfactory delivery.
You could have a bad power supply there have been a few of these in addition to that the software driver may not be installed correctly causing the computer not to recognize the printer.
When you plug the USB cable from the computer to the printer do any of the lights on the main printer board light up?
When I plug the USB cable in on both sides, the lights on the microcontroller board light up, but there is no Device Driver installation procedure after that.
Actually the problem is I am in India and the shipment back to the US from here would probably cost more than the adapter itself.

What operating system?
Which motherboard?
You can most likely source a power supply in India. The microcontroller lighting up does not indicate proper power - 5v is received from the USB, but you need wall voltage to print.
Before you order a new power supply, check the screw terminals on the board where the power cord connects to it. Maybe one of the wires came loose.
@solidoodlesupport - I used an ASUS Zenbook UX31 ultrabook working with Windows 7. I can source a power supply in India no doubt, but my college won't agree to make an extra payment when the first order was not shipped satisfactorily. Isn't it the responsibility of the vendor to ensure proper shipment?
@IanJohnson I did that. The wire is well connected. I checked the voltage on the wires. 0 Volts. And this is before even a single run.

Or just try more firmly seating the power cord into the power supply.
