Topic: Idle? not printint correctly

hello.
I am trying to print some simple projects in a Soliddoodle 3 and i have some problems trying to do that.

1. when it prints the 1st layer or the 3 first layers, they are really  "messy".  How can I do for creating a layer in the same material(ABS) or a bottom "bed" or surface before it stars printing?

2.When printing seems like if the "center" in the Gcode were missing..It starts printing well and from one second to the other it just starts printing what it should in another area of the printed piece.
The other thing with this problem is that when its done printing the program says "idle" and shows the area that was wrong-printed as a black area in the blue model.
how can i fix this?

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

Sounds like your first problem to solve is getting the print to stick at the start, check this out: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/1889/the … gs-around/

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

Tell us a little about your set up.
What version of Slic3r are you using?
I have had similar problems with any newer versions than 0.9.7

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

and this problems are happening using the slic3r.

now I'm trying with skeinforge and the printed pieces are looking really nice but I haven't found the way to change the printing path, it says that is printing in lines (rectilinear), but after the first 2 printed layers it starts to printing with a honeycomb path.

how could I control this?

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

I have little to no experience with skienforge but in configure tab if you are using Repetier is where you would make those changes.  Open Slic3r under help/about and look at what version you have and let us know.  For me it was as simple as going back to 0.9.7 I don't know why but as long as I get nice prints it doesn't matter.

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

The Repetier is using the Slic3r 0.9.9.
This is what my printer is recently doing,so dont think is a mechanical problem, i think it is related with the configuration.
as the videos are dificult to upload here, i've created a folder with videos and images of what is hapening with my printer.

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

search layer shifts on these forums. There are a bunch of topics about this. Mostly the fixes are fans on the electronics, belt calibrations (info on wiki) and lube on rods.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

Don't forget heatsinks on the stepper (particularly the X axis).  Mine was skipping until I started to cool  the X-stepper.

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

I've tried to print with another version of the slic3r (0.9.7) in another PC and it actually works perfect, but i have no idea where to find that version to downlod it because everytime i try to instal the repetier it comes with the lates version of the slic3r (0.9.9)..
does anyone know where to find it?

Thank you!

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

I just watched your video... you have a godawful sound when the carriage moves toward the front in the Y Axis. You definitely need to check your belt tension/calibration or maybe something is rubbing somewhere.

If you want an old version of slic3r then you would have to go the slic3rs website. http://slic3r.org/download

Don't forget to check the set screws.

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

what 2n2r said !

sounds like the y-axis idlers are needing some grease!!, I'd check the printers idler brackets aren't cracked/broken, check the set screws... then do the true circle calibration video...

Per your request I sent you a PM with step by step instructions to switch back to 0.9.7
if what you say above is true... that will fix your problems.  However looking at the pics. I am guessing you just got lucky when you tried the other PC.
Try switching back and if that fixes things great.
Take a serious look at what the others have posted here and make sure your not dealing with a much bigger issue.

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

Thank you everyone,
I checked the belts and the other parts and they are ok.

I tryied to print again with my pc using an older slic3r 0.9.7 but the pieces still  shifting on Y axis. I tryed to print the same piece 10 times and the shift still happening, everytime in a diferent layer.
When I tryed to printed in the other pc it works perfect! I actually printed the same piece 4 times and it is at it should!!

I dont understand what is happening because the configuration and settings aparently are the same in both pc's.

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

Are you sure you don't have something else happening with your PC that is causing it to hang up?
Maybe a power setting or screen saver or some other program/auto update software running that might be causing this?

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

yes, im sure!
it happens in the first layers, sometimes after 5 mins, sometimes after 20mins..
and im always watching the printer and the pc while printing to try to identify what is happening.

Re: Idle? not printint correctly

looks like what was happening to mine! disconnect the Y drive belt and spint your Y motor by hand  back and forth slowly at first and move it quicker see if it spins freely or if it sticks at any point . my motor needed replaced

when moving your printer manually has it stopped or gotten stuck where ever?

hope you at least diagnose you problem so you can get it fixed!
