Topic: Leap Motion + Solidoodle = Cool Stuff
You might have seen this already, but just in case you haven't, the Leap Motion https://www.leapmotion.com/ is due to come out later this quarter, and I am really excited to get my device. The Leap Motion is a flash-drive-sized 3D sensor for PC that has 10 micron movement sensing precision, and can track an 8-cu.-ft. volume above it. It's $70+shipping for the pre-order available on their website.
One of the demos they talked about (but I can't find the video for) is a "virtual clay" modeling program which allows you to directly manipulate a 3D clay blob with your hands, with some amazing precision. Furthermore, there are plenty of ways to integrate it with more geometrical design approaches such as CAD. Not to mention, the eventual ability to exploit its unmatched resolution in directly scanning arbitrary objects.
I think it could be a great boost for 3D printing.
