Topic: SU: Scanned drawing, how to get it to lie down flat so I can print it?

Here's my problem:

How do I get the object to lie flat on the base plane? I have looked and looked for this answer, maybe I'm just dense (at least 50% fill!) but I do appreciate your tine and help. I've learned a lot just hanging out and readfing your posts and suggestions.

Thank you!

You use the rotate tool in SketchUp.

Post up the skp and I'll do it for you.

Thank you, sir. Here's the SKB.

I've been trying to use the Rotate tool but just got frustrated. I'll accept your help with this drawing but obviously need to get this down for myself.

I appreciate your taking time to help another noob.

Sorry, I guess I didn't click the Add File button. Anyway, it looks like I figured out that the Align To Plane button in Netfabb does this. Problem solved, I think.

Look into the SmartDrop plugin. It'll fix minor uneven placement. Just make a flat surface at 0,0 then drop the object onto it.

Seriously, you are one of the masters of the game, far as I can see. I'm an old (retired) VB6/SQL developer so I know a bit about coding but the 3D stuff is all new. I'm trying not to get frustrated but it seems every tine I turn around I run into another problem. Being a noob, I try not to pester everyone and try to find answers myself. Often as not, I end up asking for help. I'm even thinking about buying the Dummies book, except it takes a few days to get here and I really don't want to wait that long. So, I keep hammering away, trying to figure out why an apparently perfectly good model won't hold water, etc. When I try to export it to netfabb or mashlab they blow up because... it's a non-solid!

I even downloaded Creo thinking it might be easier than SU but I can't get it to get up and run without a DLL initialization error! D'oh!

I'm used to being a major dude on the forums (motorcycles, etc.), not a noobie. Humbling, eh?

This plugin helps identify issues with solids in SketchUp

That one is ok but it doesn't tell you what type of problem it is.

I much prefer:

22 euros, but it categorises any problems and will attempt to fix them if you like.
