Topic: What do I need to fix this problem

The circular parts got distorted but the box came out perfectly fine. DO I need to do that fix that was shown on youtube?
The inner circle looks ok and the parts fit together.

Re: What do I need to fix this problem

This does not seem to be as big of a problem with the .3mm height, I had it set to do .1mm height and it distorts. What causes that and how do I fix it? It is still there with 0.3mm height just not as bad.

Re: What do I need to fix this problem

The finer height causes more drag which exacerbates the slop in your belts. Round parts bring out the innaccuracies more than square parts. Search the forum for xy belt tension and you will find lots of posts on how to do this, some cool mods, calibration videos, etc. This is very common, but with some adjustments you should get a handle on it.

Re: What do I need to fix this problem

Give us some back ground so that we know what we are looking at smile

What temps are you extruding at?
What is the in fill set to?
Are these your first prints?
Do you have any mods to your printer? (fan, heated bed, etc..)
What are your print speeds?
What kind of filament are you using? (Looks like solidoodle black ABS)

Also, upload the stl files so we know what they are supposed to look like.

I am leaning towards this being caused but slow print speeds at too high of a temp. If that is true then if you print them all at the same time it should come out much better. Or install a fan on the extruder to cool the prints.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

Re: What do I need to fix this problem

Sorry yes background would be helpful.

I made a crappy but it mostly works enclosure and I added a glass sheet to the bed. Other than that it is a stock SD3.

The settings were the default in Repetier Host for 0.1mm and 1.75mm filament. Default everything including fill.

No these are not my first prints. I already printed one roll of plastic. It was a black roll from Solidoodle.

After the first print I did the true circle adjustment for the Y axis and it did not help as the second print came out the same. I then printed it in .3mm and it came out better but still has a small indent in the middle.

I have not messed with the X tension but I do know my X idler is having more friction than it should as it is squealing. I had to add lube to it to make it quiet. SD is sending me a new idler and screw and im not sure what else just yet.

Re: What do I need to fix this problem

Oh yea my bed temp says ~100C but my thermal camera says the glass is only 88.9 in the center. No I do not know what to adjust the emissivity too as the glass can be from 0.85 to 0.95 emissivity. It is pyrex glass I believe 1/8th inch thick from Mc Masters with Aqua Net for "extra hold" lol.

Im thinking of adding a thermal transfer pad between the glass and aluminum bed. I just dont know if it will help. Usually the prints do not like sticking to the outter areas of the glass so Im limited to around 6x6 print area.

Re: What do I need to fix this problem

I downloaded the
Calibrate your 3D printer to print parts to fit

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:52946

The ones that got messed up are the circles with the shaft sticking out. The S one didnt come in right or the STL file is messed up so I didnt print it.
