Topic: USB Port is loose.

Hello, my brother-in-law brought over his daughter, and she hooked her feet on the cables to the solidoodle 2 I have. and now the USB Port on the printer (picture attached) is just hanging there. When I plug it into computer my mouse and keyboard dont work, and I cant get the printer to connect to computer.

How can I fix this?

Any help would be very much appriciated, Thank you.

Re: USB Port is loose.

Time to buy a new motherboard! Shoot me a PM if you end up replacing it, I'd be interested in the old one for parts.

You could also try to resolder it.

thanks for the posts, will deffinetly try replacing the usb first before the whole board.

Re: USB Port is loose.

If that fails due to PCB damage, another option is to use a separate FTDI Cable and plug it into the headers on the PCB that are normally hidden beneath the USB port.

Not as cheap as replacing the port, but if you pulled out the through-hole plating, it *might* be an option before moving to replace the whole board.

Re: USB Port is loose.

Does anyone know if this stock USB connector can be replaced with a micro USB connector? It would be great to be able to use one of my short phone charger cables to connect to the Raspberry Pi.

I know it is probably futile but you might want to just try reinstalling the drivers once. Might work, maybe, worth a shot right?

Re: USB Port is loose.

When the usb cord got yanked on it may have done more damage to the board then just loosening the socket, there could also be a break in some of the traces on the circuit board near the usb socket... a nice bright light and a pocket microscope are invaluable for tracing down this type of problem... as the main board is only two layers it should be repairable for someone with moderate soldering skills... also make sure and try another cord... just in case it got fouled up too. smile
