Topic: Base Model - Acrylic Build Platform

I got my solidoodle 2 Base model, but I cannot get my parts to stick on the cold acrylic platform.

They alway peel off at some point. (sometime after an hour of printing...)

I adjusted the Z tab and releveled the Platform but it still doesn't work...

Can someone help me, it seem quite hard to get info about the printers without heating beds...

Re: Base Model - Acrylic Build Platform

I have the basic model also... I have to admit, without heat bed... it's very hard to stick(even first layer)
I have to use combination of heat gun and closure to make it stick.(before my tile heated bed) bigger brim helps. (2mm and more) and don't print anything with higher infill percentage(try less than 20%).. bigger volumn will shrink at larger force. Use hairspray 10 minutes before print, allow it to dry...

and look at my signature for my biuld  ,I believe stock power supply "should" be able to power this bed. because nichrome uses less amp than resister(about 2 amp compare to 10 amp). with under power issue (due to power supply working at 70% efficiency), i was still able to get 60c out of that bed.

Re: Base Model - Acrylic Build Platform

I'm trying with ABS as it is advised by Solidoodle. I'm a very surprise that it is so hard to use the base model with ABS. I did not see any warning on solidoodle website about that issue...

Thanks RavensCrest for the advise. I wish there were an easier way...

without heated bed, it's very hard...  but spend $100 to upgrade is a little too much..

Re: Base Model - Acrylic Build Platform

You need a heated bed, glass, and hair spray, imo. Total cost: less than thirty bucks. Time? Could be hours.  Search the forum and you will get TONS of amazing info on what bed to buy, how to install it, infa red photos, etc. It's an easy easy mod. Just search it out here, all the info you need and more.

Good luck musisold-fun.

Re: Base Model - Acrylic Build Platform

My nichrome wire is around $10 shipped (and you can use them for other project)
Tile is actually $.88 +tax
dremel from HF is around $8.29 + tax (I already own)
furnace cement around 9 (you can use it for another project)
sensor is around 5 shipped from ebay
so it's about 15 dollars for me.

Re: Base Model - Acrylic Build Platform

Don't forget an higher rated power supply. The base model comes with a smaller power supply than the expert/pro models.
