Topic: Zip tie around extruder for Soli 3

Hi guys,

I just received my Solidoodle 3 and I stupidly cut the zip tie that was around the extruder, thinking that it was to secure it for packing.

Could someone post images of their extruder with the zip tie in place so I can replace it? Specifically I need to see where it should go at the bottom part of the extruder, so a side view would be great.

Incidentally there were 4 other zip ties tying the rails on either side of the printer to the frame, I assume those are meant to be removed, since they seemed to interfere with the belts anyway... Please let me know if that is an incorrect assumption...

Thanks!

I don't have a camera handy right now but it goes straight through between both sides of the belt kinda rubs on where the belt tightens... I'll try to get you a pic later if no one else does.

Thanks Krythis and Ronsii! Much appreciated! big_smile

Just confirming: those other 4 ties that were around the two side rails and the top of the frame are meant to be removed right?? I think they would be in the way of the Y axis otherwise...

I only have SD2's so not familiar with the specifics of the SD3 if it's any different on the longer rails or not... probably not... mine had no zip ties on the rails in fact the only zip ties are on the extruders.

Might be some new packaging they are trying to keep the wire loom from drooping during shipping....or something.

zip ties should be removed from rails. you assumption was correct there. y axis cannot home with them in place.

Thanks dkeeling728.

Well after a day playing with the solidoodle, I'm much more familiar with it, so I now know those zip ties are meant to be removed smile I guess they wanted to counter the weight of the x axis on those rails during shipping. It also seems to be a new method of packing because I've seen an unboxing a month ago and it didn't have them.

Anyway, all is good smile

So in summary for anyone with a new SD3, the 4 zip ties at the top of the frame ARE meant to be removed, but NOT the one around the extruder/print head! cool
