Topic: New Solidoodle 3, can connect but only read temp on heated bed.

Hi and thanks in advance for looking at this post smile
I just received my solidoodle 3 and can connect to it with Repetier Host.

I have changed from virtual printer to the correct "virtual" com port.
i can see the temperature of the heated bed, but i am unable to anything else.

The heated bed stays at room-temperature and i am unable to heat it.
I can NOT read or heat the extruder.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again.

check to make sure that the connector marked ET on the top of your board in the back of the machine is plugged in. It should be right next to the connector marked BT. They are both white 2 conductor connectors.

Hi thanks for the reply.

I Just check, even replugged it. Same issue - unable to do anything but read the "bed temp"
I have even tried different operating system and different architecture i experience exactly the same issue with Raspberry PI & Octoprint.

Any other suggestions or things i could test?

Re: New Solidoodle 3, can connect but only read temp on heated bed.

Hi again,

Sending it to "Home" in octoprint actually moves the Extruder.
Using the other buttons (Up/down/left/right) does not work

can you get it away from all the edges and type M119 in the manual control tab of repetier-host. There should be line for inputting your own G-code. That will tell you the status of the endstops. You should be able to manually push in the end stops and look at the output of M119 to see if they get "triggered". You will have to enter in the code while you toggle the end stops.

This is what i get when using octoprint terminal and sending M119
I am not sure what it means?

Send: M105
Recv: ok T:0.0 /0.0 B:21.2 /0.0 @:0 B@:0
Send: M119
Recv: Reporting endstop status
Recv: x_max: TRIGGERED

Re: New Solidoodle 3, can connect but only read temp on heated bed.

restarted the printer and moved the extruder (by hand)

Recv: Reporting endstop status
Recv: x_max: open
Recv: y_max: TRIGGERED
Recv: z_min: TRIGGERED
Recv: o

What does this mean?
Other output:
Recv: ok T:0.0 /0.0 B:22.5 /0.0 @:0 B@:0
Send: M105

Re: New Solidoodle 3, can connect but only read temp on heated bed.

I am assuming you moved the extruder head to the left?

Right now the is showing that you are at the home position with the Y axis (carriage is all the way towards the back) and Z axis (bed is raised all the way up). Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct.
But extruder still seems "dead"

Trying to get your post count up so you can post a picture. Can you take a picture of the electronics and attach it so we can see what you have going on?

Re: New Solidoodle 3, can connect but only read temp on heated bed.

Well, there is clearly nothing wrong with your board. There's a QC PASSED sticker on it. If you aren't getting anything for extruder temps then you should have a warning or 2 in the log area at the bottom.

I would be inclined to check all connections on the extruder thermistor. Try to make sure the wires are in nice and solid in the connectors. It looks like you know that it is the Blue connection on the extruder.

Sorry for the delay between my responses. I have another project that I am working on.  smile

No worries, thanks for helping!
So, remove the tape on the nozzle and check the wires?

Re: New Solidoodle 3, can connect but only read temp on heated bed.

You might not have to remove the tape but yes.

Re: New Solidoodle 3, can connect but only read temp on heated bed.

I have the same problem but its only my extruder/hot end. The bed heats up fine and I can move the extruder around but it doesn't read temp and it doesn't heat up.

check your connectors on your thermistor. "ET" connector on the board and the Blue connector on your hotend.

Re: New Solidoodle 3, can connect but only read temp on heated bed.

I just received my Solidoodle 3, and had the problem with the Extruder temperature reading 0 C, causing an error condition and not letting other functions work until the problem was corrected.

I followed this thread to determine which connections dealt with the extruder temperature sensor, and proceeded to use a continuity tester to test solder points in the connectors.  The solder point at the extruder was broken (on the blue connector), and after adding a dab more solder to it, it seems to read fine.  The bed and extruder are now heating as expected.
