Topic: Speed change after first three solid layers (**Solved**)

Hi,

My printer was working fine until I added a glass platform.  Now, I don't think the glass caused any problem but adding it made me need to level the platform and z axis offset.  My print quality deteriorated at this point.

In trying to resolve the issue something odd has happened.  No matter what speed settings I put in the slicer config file, after the first three layers print the speed drops by at least half during the rest of the print until it gets to the top solid layers.  If I increase the flow rate under the manual control tab the speed does increase.

I have tried uninstalling Repetier and reinstalling (after deleting the slicer .ini files) so it should have been a clean install.  I have shutoff the printer for 5 minutes.

What else can I do?  What could be causing this problem?

Please help, this is causing a 7 minute print (20 mm cube) turn into a 30 minute print.

Thanks.

I think I figured out what was going on.  I believe it is a cooling issue.  The printer will slow down if there isn't enough time for the layer to cool to allow more time for cooling.  When I print multiple copies at the same time or larger items it prints at the correct speed.

Problem solved.

Adding a nozzle fan is a really easy way to get around that without using multiple copies or idler objects.  I can print small objects at incredible speeds in this way.  My cooling settings in RH are just set so that the minimum layer time is only 3 seconds.
