Topic: Trying to print Screwless Heart Gears

I'm not sure what's going on. Ive been working on the screwless ger heart http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12208 I've printed all the external pieces. I tried to print the center with all eight pins. After slicing I only had the center and the g-code preview didn't look like the opject placement. The pins were missing and the center part didn't look the same. I decided to try and print the center by itself. I ended up with the same results. After slicing the part didn't look the same as the placed object. I tried printing and I ended up with what's in the pictures, not what the gear heart center piece should look like. Any ideas on what may be causing this? According to the info on the gear heart entry the center piece for the gear cube is the same. I've printed one of those with no problem, so I think I'll pull up that file and hope it fits. Anybody have any idea why I'm getting such strange results? I'm using the Solidoodle version of Repetier-Host .82b, slicing with Slic3r using the SD .3mm configuration.

Thanks,

TiM

Re: Trying to print Screwless Heart Gears

I think I read that Slic3r has trouble with the center and someone uploaded a version that works.  Hunt around Hingiverse and see it you can find a derivative that sounds like that.

I printed the one from the gear cube, rotated 55 degrees in the Y axis and it sliced and printed fine. Now all I need is a video showing me how to assemble all these strange pieces...

You also might want to run your STL though Netfabb's Cloud service.

Slicer seems to like it better as it does really weird things with the raw STLs I export from Solidworks.

Re: Trying to print Screwless Heart Gears

I have found a bunch of stuff from Thingiverse that had problems so I automatically run stuff through Netfab  now. I even found one thing that I saw as a recommended "simple print" to practice on was so bad Netfab reported that it couldn't be fixed. The center from the heart looked OK, but after slicing it printed out something entirely different.
What kind  of trouble are you having with your Solidworks parts? I've been printing things out that I've drawn without problems  so far. Nothing really complex, but with fillets and holes and what not. What version of SW are you using? I'm running 2010...

Re: Trying to print Screwless Heart Gears

I'm currently in the middle of printing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16909 and the center was the first I printed...I had no issues, everything sliced and printed just fine.
Then again, this is like 600% larger than the original.
