Topic: Layer shift, Repetier host exits

Ohhh the issues that could have been solved for under $5

So ever since I've had my printer I've had the odd issue where RH would stop responding, or I would come back and it had exited on it's own, stopping the print. Mainly just exiting on its own (This has happened whilst using 2 different computers).

Today whilst trying to print the Mk4 Jigsaw replacement RH exited on it's own (I came back and the print had stopped, the head was still on the print. But this time I noticed something disturbing, a layer shift of 4-5mm.
I've got the baud rate set correctly, as well as a cooling fan on the electronics. . . .. I'm concerned that this is a faulty board hmm
So,  the Jigsaw is showing cracks already (This part was the part I liked when I got the printer, I thought it showed design skill and build quality .. . . .) Also my extruder fan seems to sound like it's on the way out (I've only had this printer for less than a month).

Things I have already done to this machine (machine did just stop on occasion before these changes/checks);
Extruder calibration
Flow calibration
Stepper motor voltage check
Cable guide and thumbscrews
Electronics cooling fan

Anyone had this issue before?

What version of RH are you using and where did you d/l them from?

I haven't ever had my RH exhibit this kind of behavior before... the only time I can crash it is when moving the 3d view around when it is printing, so lesson learned... don't mess with it while printing wink

Re: Layer shift, Repetier host exits

Second attempt at printing the Mk4 extruder jigsaw replacement.
This time RH was still open, however printer stopped following commands.

At the bottom RH just said, Printing layer 150 of 800 or something like that. No errors reported.
Attempted to pause print (print paused)
Attempted to disconnect and then reconnect and the printer wouldn't connect. Access to port 3 denied or similar. This has happened prior to printing before, and unplugging then reconnecting has worked. However halfway through a print it caused RH to exit.

Will attempt to slice with a different slicer to see if that makes a difference.

Just to make sure we cover the basics... you did turn off all power saving/management on the computer... right? no sleep settings turned on for the hard drive, ports or memory...

Re: Layer shift, Repetier host exits

Yeah, sleep settings are all off. I have done 15hr prints before no issues.

Looks to be another sli3er issue, not liking a STL. It writes code which confuses RH I guess.
I sliced with Kisslicer and printed without issues (this is when Kisslicer allerted me to the errors).

The layer shift still concerns me, but like intermittent faults I guess I'll just have to wait until it happens again.

Note to self, Netfabb absolutely everything, and for complicated parts use Kisslicer. Now to work out what the max speed I can run at whilst maintaining a good quality print. Is there potential to damage anything if I put the speed setting too high?

Also anyone got a cad file for the original jigsaw? It would look better made out of aluminium, and would act as a heatsink.
Should I have a spare extruder fan on hand for when this one craps out? Some people are suggesting having a spare everything hmm
