Topic: Bed is stuck at the bottom
After one of my very first prints, I took the bed all the way down in order to clean it conveniently.
Now it won't move at all, I can hear the motor, but the vertical rod doesn't rotate.
Please advise.

It sounds like the bed is caught on somehting. With your power off, can you turn the Z rod manually? You may be able to turn the rod while placing some light pressure on the bed to get it to move up.
I had this at one stage. The motor shaft was just spinning in the end of the z threaded rod.
Even after I fixed it, every now and again the motor would spin the the shaft again. Very annoying.
Thanks Gordym, it worked.
I have rotated it manually while pushing the bed a little bit up and it moved.
Now the motor moves it fine...
Nothing seems to be unusual at the bottom, nothing that would hold it.
Is there a known issue that we should avoid taking the bed full way down?
I have seen some mods that seem to try preventing it.
thanks again,
Michael
I am not sure what your version of hte rod looks like. Mine is a first gen SD2 and the rod has threads all the way down to the coupler for the drive motor. What is sounds like is yours ran out of threads on the rod when it bottomed out.
I have received it just about a week ago.. Is there a way to know without disassembling it?
If you can post a picture of the Z-Axis motor assembly at the lower back side of your printer we may be able to determine what it stuck on. Raise your bed to the home position and take a picture. of the motor area.
hm, the forum doesn't allow me any links, images and while it supposedly allows attachments, I can't really see them attached.
How do you post pictures here?
you have to have 10 posts before you can attach images or links.
Hi Michaelz, in the printer settings for repetier under the printer shape tab try lowering the value in the print area height a few mm's then the software will stop the motor before it gets too low.
Thanks 2n2r5, will have to inflate the posts count
4 to go..
Hi Ronsii, does it mean that I wont be able to print full 150mm?
Is there a way to adjust the z-rod? I bet it's not by design...
yes... but I don't think you can now... maybe only 149...
the easiest way to gain a mm or two is to tighten the bed leveling screws down then readjust your z stop screw this will effectively give you more usable z rod travel.
thanks, doesn't seem like 1-2mm are worth the effort, will just limit it in software.
