Topic: Nozzle Clog. Broken parts. : (

So i just got home and tried to trouble shoot my Solidoodle 3 extrusion issues I have been having. Seems I have developed a clogged nozzle. I tried poking and prodding the nozzle with a small wire. Not sure if it was working so I tried to feed some more filament in and see if it worked. All was going well then Crack!!! Some of the inside acrylic pieces have broken!!! Nooooo!!!!!!

Anyone know if there is an alternate head or the fastest way to get replacement parts from solidoodle? Also where is a good place for kapton tape for when I reassemble?

I have tried contacting solidoodle with no response via skype or email yet. I emailed them this morning and tonight again.

I've got a set of acrylic jigsaw I could sell you, or I could print you a Lawsy's MK4.

Amazon has some good places for kapton. I picked up some 1/4" x 100' for ~6 bucks. The shipping ($4) actually was more expensive than the tape($2).

If you can patch your acrylic piece back together with glue/tape/chewing gum or whatever you can long enough to print the MK4 (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:47561), you will be doing yourself a huge favor. It is much easier to remove your hotend and even switch it out with a spare* (hint hint).

Otherwise buy Tim's spare (elmoret). As I am sure you have seen. There are tons of good tips for cleaning the nozzle out. Acetone is a must in my opinion.

Good luck!

What/where can I get a spare hotend? I would like to have a spare on hand in case this happens again.

From Solidoodle for an OEM replacement. For upgrades, it's all here man, search/have a look around.

Re: Nozzle Clog. Broken parts. : (

I am definitely going to print out a bunch of spares when I get it running again.

Does anyone know where I could get a stock barrel without the nozzle? I see they don't sell it on the solidoodle website.  I have damaged mine trying to get the head off. It is really on there!!

Maybe I will just get another full assembly.

Re: Nozzle Clog. Broken parts. : (

I managed to chase the threads on my barrel and get my nozzle off! I also ordered another extruder assembly this morning for a spare.

Re: Nozzle Clog. Broken parts. : (

Took a torch to my nozzle and barrel. Clean as a whistle. Now if i can find some Kapton tape locally before Tuesday.

TEFLON TAPE

White industrial teflon tape meets Military Specification MIL-T-27730A and has a tempature range of -212°F - 500°F.

The pink heavy duty industrial Teflon tape has a temperature range of -400°F - 500°F.

Teflon tape will do in a pinch but should be swapped out with kapton when you get the chance.

I can never envision a time in which I have to put that dam jigsaw back together. *shudders* When I was switching to the MK4, I saw that I had a few broken pieces but never knew. If elmoret is willing to help, which he always is, take him up on that offer.
Also, just get a new hot end. You wont regret it.

It's not so hard to put together with a little practice.

I'm curious, are there any mods on the machines in the solidoodle office?

They were testing a printed extruder as of last feb.  There were some pictures from a press tour of the factory.

Not community mods (although we've had fun trying them.) Of course, we are always trying out whatever top secret Soli-projects are being thrown around. For instance, we had the aluminum platforms in the office a long while before they were announced (those should be in the store soon by the way - we are trying to stock up so we don't have slow shipping issues like in the past.)

So, yes, we have some mods but we can't talk about them smile
