Topic: temperature control issue

I replaced my original (oct12) hot end recently. I have had a few x axis crashes where the extruder strains against the xstop. (the metal lever broke off) While this occurs a white powder rains down on the bed. Now I have a temperature control issue. The temperature swings are more than 10 degrees in each direction. Is there some paste or glue that is used to hold the heater in the aluminum block. What can I replace it with?

A thermal epoxy is probably what you are looking for.
