Topic: new idler pulley brackets
I drew these left and right brackets for my SD3 today. One of the original ones cracked after just a short amount of printing, so I printed new ones before it completely broke and made my machine inoperable. I also took the opportunity to make a stronger design, and add more dampening to the y-axis rod assembly.
To install, I fist fit the rod into the bracket as shown, and then I put it into final position. My brackets needed almost no cleanup to fit well, thank goodness. Step two, use the guide hole in the new bracket to drill the new secondary mounting hole in your angle iron. One per side. The purpose of this bolt is to both attach the new bracket to the frame, but to also squeeze down on your 8mm y-axis rod. The nut is put up and into the hole on the bottom of the part. Use an open end wrench to hold the nut. You will need two new 4x25mm bolts and lock nuts to attach.
As for two factory mounting screws, you can choose to reuse your 3mm cap screws, but I broke mine in half due to all the loctite. No worries, just twist off the two little PEM nuts and go with two new 4x12mm button head cap screws and lock nuts, which works the same if not better. Finally, be sure to lube up your idler pulleys with grease. Lastly, you might want to make sure nothing binds or crashes on your specific machine before running a part!
