Topic: Bad fan on new SD3

Just connected to pronterface for the first time and started checking things out. Moved the x, y, and z axis to make sure all was smooth. There was a funny whining sound and I looked to see if the fan was spinning. It wasn't spinning but was making a whining noise. I put my finger on the fan hub and it was very HOT! Luckily I have a few 40mm fans laying around and tried one of those. Works a charm. The fan that came with my SD3 was bad from the get go. Also my SD3 was missing the power cable! Again, luckily, I was planning on upgrading the power supply as soon as it arrived and had it already.

I think quality is slipping again in the effort to get them out the door faster sad

Update. The original fan wasn't bad. It was wired in reverse. Looks like where they spliced the red and black wires to two black wires in the sleeving. This is definitely a quality issue!

Yeah, support told me this apparently happens quite a bit!

Replaced fan and wired new one in the correct way. Also installed a plug to make it easier to replace. Works perfect now.

Re: Bad fan on new SD3

This would totally not be a problem if Solidoodle used some sort of actual color coding on the wiring harness. Instead of all the same color wires going to the single device.

The fans that Solidoodle are using are junk.  They will wear out after only a short period of time.  Totally unsuited to this operating enviroment. I am trying to find a better fan to use.

Re: Bad fan on new SD3

In addition to the fan being wired in reverse and burning the fan out, My SD3 didn't have a power cord in the box. Quality is a real joke. If I wasn't a fix it kind of person and didn't have a new power supply or new fan already, I would be very upset!
