Topic: y-axis mechanical movement slipping (Solidoodle 3rd gen)

I'm not sure why or how this has happened (was working without any problems in this particular sense prior to today) but I notice that when manually controlling the y-axis that it "slips" and won't actually move the part that the print nozzle arrangement is attached to.

Is this is a pretty big issue or is there something simple I've missed?

I would put up a picture of the issue but apparently the forum system doesn't allow it.  Somewhat annoying but hey.

Check all the grub screws that hold the couplers to the y-shafts.  If one of them is slipping, it won't allow the y-axis to move.

Yeah, you need at least 5 or 10 post before you can post pics... or upload them to something like imgur.com and post and url without the periods smile Like wilheldp said check the setscrews in the toothed pulleys make sure they are tight maybe even mark the side and the shaft with a black marker just to keep track of if they are slipping. Not sure from your post is the y=axis not moving at all? forward or rearward or just sometimes?

The y-axis is definitely moving occasionally, it just very often seems to get stuck.  I had a great smallish print going (just a box to test to make sure my settings were dialed in but it was working rather well) when it started to slip and messed up the print sad

Check out the skipping steps wiki article for some possibilities.

Ok, I've got the y-axis adjusted so it's no longer slipping smile

This looks like it's resolved.  Thanks for the help everyone.

I had the same problem and found that I also had too high of a feed rate that caused blobs that the nozzle caught on and made the issue worse. After adjusting that also it works very well.
