Topic: New Solidoodle 3 Not Working

First off, I'm new to 3D printing but old when it comes to tech.  I just opened my new Solidoodle3 and have followed the instructions posted on the SD site and elsewhere.  The current issue is this - its not working.  I suspect Ive screwed up the arduino drivers in some way.  The only other option I see is a hardware problem, and I dont want to even think about that after Ive waited so long and am so close to printing...

So, the symptoms:
- Repetier Host appears to see the printer, but cannot do anything to/with it.
- A red light comes on when the USB is connected.  No other lights appear.
- No fan or motors are running.
- All USB drivers have been installed, and the port is available.
- There is an "unknown device" under "other devices" in my Device Manager, which I suspect is the culprit... but cannot find a driver for it.

Any advice would be welcome.  If further info/screenshots are needed please let me know.

Have you plugged in the power supply? If so follow the connection to the printer making sure all is tight.

If that don't work you might have a bad power supply..

That's the hardware problem I was afraid it was going to be...

Power is plugged in.  Now that I've looked under my desk, Im not seeing a green light on the power supply...

Well, crapcakes.  Now I wait again.

Nope.

The green light on the power supply glows faintly when the USB is plugged in, so its drawing from the board and not the plug... without the USB, its a dead light even plugged in.

There is a thread on here about bad power supplies and how to fix them if you are up or that...don't try this if you don't have experience in this sort of thing smile otherwise get hold of solidoodle support and tell them they should be able to get you a new supply out fairly quick

Thank you Solidoodle community, and thank you ronsii for the link!  After some more fine tuning, Im printing out my first test print!

Its not high-tech if youre not using a voltmeter and a soldering iron...
