Topic: Cooling Fan For SD3 Motherboard

I had an issue with my prints freezing partway through (no error messages).  The tech I spoke with suggested adding a fan for the stepper chips.  I bought a 30mm 12vdc fan, but I'm not sure how to go about mounting and wiring it.  Anybody tried doing this yet?

Re: Cooling Fan For SD3 Motherboard

Why not put a small desk fan on it to see if that solves the problem before going to the mods

Tape it in place, run it off a 12v wall wart for now

Re: Cooling Fan For SD3 Motherboard

I was hoping at the very least to be able to somehow splice the fan wires to the existing setup so it would be as compact as possible since the space I have for the printer is limited as it is.  I like the fan mount idea but was something you bought or made?  If I can't get the print to go all the way though before it freezes again, then making it would be kinda futile!

It's worth repeating the recommendation I received from some other members here to get some RAM heat sinks for your motor driver IC's. Made a big difference on my X axis stepper drivers. For long prints I also had a small clip-on desk fan to increase convection across the board.
